Barney Dagger’s Bio

Barney was found wandering the streets of Georgia by a local animal control. When no one came to claim him, the shelter had to make the painful decision after 3 days to euthanize him. The day that they were ready to euthanize him, one of the shelter staff members felt so bad about putting him down because he was such a sweet lovable dog. So, they took him to Paw Angels a local small rehabilitation shelter. The wonderful folks there made sure that Barney was spayed and microchipped. Shortly, thereafter, he traveled to a shelter run by Chris McCormick where he stayed for about 8 months. He was staying there because a small shelter here on Long Island called Forgotten Friends of Long Island didn’t have a kennel available for him.  We agreed to help and took him in as our foster. As soon as we met him, we fell madly in love with him and adopted him on the spot!  People often ask us how we felt rescuing Barney…we always say, “You should ask Barney how he felt about rescuing us!  Because he really did rescue us!  Since Barney rescued us, he’s been more trusting and confident. He’s added so much love and comfort to our lives. A month after we adopted him, we took him on his first journey to Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. It was there that the producers, Steven Latham and Conrad Stanley from PBS and the award winning “Shelter Me” Series filmed Barney as he accompanied us on this exciting venture. He was a WOOFderful little canine actor!
Barney became a star on PBS’s “Shelter Me” Series! The new show will be released later in 2024. Stay tuned!
